bye bye, beautiful! [atrb=style, background: url(http://i56.tinypic.com/2iay8ty.png);][atrb=border, 0, true][atrb=width, 450, true][atrb=cellpadding, 5px, true] Miwa had a certain sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. She knew exactly what it was and let the book she had been reading slip from her hands. The hairs on the back of her stood on end as electricity filled in the air. Another demon was close by. It made the air thick, almost as if she could smell a fragrance. It was familiar to her. Something she hadn't felt in a long time.
"Are you alright?" A human male with dark hair asked her. Had she looked as though she were in pain? Perhaps. But, she had drawn attention to herself by dropping the book.
"I am alright. Thank you for your concern." She bowed her head to the concerned man and crouched down to retrieve her book. She picked it up and held it close to, cradling it in her arms. She needed to walk away. The aura was too familiar and if it was her father, she'd have to leave.
Miwa had compounding fear and also desire about her family. She wanted to know them and become closer but being used as a tool for mischief against humans was just too much against Miwa's code of honor. The small young woman made her way down one of the rows of shelves and then peaked out into the aisle. She could see the librarian manning the desk. From there, it would be a straight shot to the door and out of the library.
Her small legs moved dainty and fast as her hands still clutched her book. Her eye blinked up at the grand staircase that lead to the upper floors of the library and Miwa's neck craned. She hadn't been up there before. She stopped at the bottom of the staircase and stared wide-eyed. She never had a reason to go up the stairs. Miwa mostly read books for children because they were the most fun and least strain on her eyes. But, the prospect of being high up in the library and probably getting lost was a bit thrilling to her.
She set a foot on the lowest stair and one after the other, soon made it up the stairs. She turned her head, looking back down to the ground floor and her stomach swirled. She never looked out of the windows of tall buildings because of the small bit of vertigo she felt. Miwa's head snapped back around and she stared in front of her. Maybe she should just explore this second level for now and try the others on some other day.

He dreamt of Miwa last night.
She was just the same – frightened, the family tool. Her long, ink-black hair was greatly dishevelled; the strands hid the entirety of her face. She floated too, as a yurei would, and like a yurei, she was clothed in a plain, white kimono. The scene changed per minute; sometimes it was sunny, sometimes snow fell all over. It did not matter, though – Miwa was the main (and only) focus of Nagamasa’s cerebrum; so long as she was in sight, the rest would be forgotten the moment the young demon awakes.
Needless to say, the only image from the dream that circulated Nagamasa’s mind when he woke was Miwa.
He missed her, as usual; from her fear-loaded eye to the pale complexion of her skin; every little piece of her. Days without her often led to a sort of hollowness within him, within the atmosphere around him; the air hanging by his shoulders had been dyed by her demonic aura.
He was going to find her today.
It did not take long – in fact, it would have taken a much shorter time had Nagamasa skipped breakfast. Desperation, however, was an inevitable force; desperation for food never failed in provoking him to stuff his face overly-full. After an exceptionally large meal, of course, came an exceptionally long nap – two hours – during which the young demon, once again, dreamt of his beloved sister.
Only after his second wakening did Nagamasa finally get to finding Miwa. It was an easy task, especially since he was terribly desperate for her. All the demon had to do was follow his desperation-stirred intuition, a particular resource he learnt to polish, over the years, until it shone with a ninety percent chance of accuracy. Besides, there was a certain odour to Miwa that had been imprinted in his senses; this odour, Nagamasa was sure, was prominent only to him.
He followed both intuition and nose to the Kisho library. As a pseudo-permanent resident of the grimy West, Nagamasa did not frequent the East. It was too bright, too vivid, of a place for the manifestation of desperation to stay; all its glitter and gleam seemed to drain his energy away – and, mind you, for a demon so young, energy was a mandatory necessity.
Miwa, on the other hand, was an even greater need.
Straightaway he spotted her, upon entering the library. She was leaving, though, before he could call out her name. Up, up, and up she went, until she stopped at the top of the stairs on the second floor. Nagamasa stayed rooted to the floor, not budging, not moving. Just watched her from afar. From where he stood, he wondered if she could see him. If she even bothered to see him.
“Miwa,” he accidentally let out, then covered his whole mouth with his hand. Dearest, did she hear him? Suppressing an anxious gulp, he hesitated for a brief moment, before power-walking up the stairs. Slowly peeling his fingers off his lips, the young demon stopped beside his beloved, a colossal grin already stretching from ear to ear at the sight of Miwa.

bye bye, beautiful! [atrb=style, background: url(http://i56.tinypic.com/2iay8ty.png);][atrb=border, 0, true][atrb=width, 450, true][atrb=cellpadding, 5px, true]Miwa stared at the second floor. There was more of... Her complexion seemed to radiate and sparkle suddenly. More books, her body cried out. Everything, no matter the subject, looked so elegant with all the spines neatly arranged in shelves that went on as far as she could see.
Miwa blinked her solitary eye. Was it her imagination or had she heard her name? She hadn't really noticed the voice but now she looked around. Maybe it was the dog god, Tomoe, she had met previously. Her eyes fell on the stairs and suddenly she dropped her book again.
Miwa stared, focusing all her perception on the single individual that was bounding toward her. And when he stopped, Miwa still stared. Water began to bead at the corner of her eye and without thinking her hands reached for him. "Naga!" She shouted suddenly and her arms wrapped around him. She brought him close into a snuggling hug.
She wasn't so much taller than he was. But, in general, she was a small female demon. Her cheek was able to rub at the side of his head and she caught his smell. Nagamasa, her younger brother, he'd shown himself and the demoness couldn't have been any more pleased. He was the baby in her family after all. She had a special affection for all of her family members but with Nagamasa, it seemed much more returned.
"Were you looking for me?" She asked as she finally let go of him and took an awkward step backward. She wiped her left cheek with her sleeve and looked sheepishly toward her younger brother. Perhaps she had overreacted a bit. But, she was happy to see him. To know that he wasn't keeping company with their father as he went around doing horrible things to the humans. It wrenched her heart thinking that maybe he would use any of her siblings in such a way.
"Have you seen any of the others?" She asked him with an eyebrow raised out of concern. She reached for his hands, in the process noticing that they were about her size already. She sighed inwardly as she stared at the joined hands for a moment. Curse her small form. She couldn't be a very good influence if she wasn't at least a little bit older in terms of body proportion.
But, maybe it was for the best. If she intimidated her siblings, then she wouldn't be very close to them. It was something she treasured, their closeness. She should try to look on the bright side of things in the future.
"Are you staying here now, Naga?" She was all questions today. But, she hadn't seen him in such awhile. "Father is here." Her eye blinked and suddenly her vision was cast downward. He was so powerful, she could feel him anywhere on the island really. To Miwa, it paid to be a little jumpy when the presence of a demon became strong around her. It led to extreme paranoia on her part. Although, that feeling came in her demon realm.
Keeping her head turned downward, she noticed the book that she had dropped previously. She bent down and retrieved it. She looked to her brother with a shy smile and raised the cover for him to see. "Nursery Rhymes." She told him and then bit her bottom lip as her eye slid left in embarrassment. So much for not acting like a small child.

Miwa was a petite demoness; she was not much taller than Nagamasa and her flesh seemed to have been superglued to her bones. Nonetheless, he was still shorter than her, and thus had to crane his neck. When he did, the smile curved by his lips grew in width - it was almost as if he was looking up to heaven, a sort of paradise only accessible by him. From her solitary eye to her fair skin, she seemed to glow all over.
When her cheek rubbed tenderly against the side of his head, Nagamasa's heart was sent a flutter - thud thud boom, it pumped. For a brief moment a desire to close his eyes had surged through the entirety of his body - but no, he could not: she was too beautiful, too ethereal. He could not possibly look anywhere else.
"Miwa," Nagamasa eventually greeted back, heart still beating wildly in his rib cage. Then he gave a sheepish grin, the usual pale of his cheek now dyed a vague shade of pink, "yes, I wanted to see you, Miwa. I missed you."
Feeling his sister take his hands in hers, Nagamasa's blush deepened into a prominent peony. He was unaware of his thumbs smoothing over the skin on both her hands. Perhaps they would soon become chemotactile - then he would know. But for now, his conscious told him he liked the smallness of those hands; how they were just slightly larger than his, how he had a greater chance of having bigger hands than Miwa did. Then he would be able to completely cover them with his own; they could be her mittens.
"No one else is around this library," he answered the demoness straightaway, an attempt at assurance. He knew her fear of their family - especially Chaos. A silent sigh developed in Nagama's throat - one day, he was sure, he would be able to convince Miwa that Father was not so bad. One day.
She dropped her book. Instinctively Nagamasa proceeded to reach down to retrieve it back, but stopped when Miwa had done so already. Nursery Rhymes? The young demon cocked his head in curiosity, a little amused at his sister's preferences. Then he smiled once more, reaching out to glide his fingers over the cover.
"Read it to me, Miwa," he requested politely, after little thought, "over there." He pointed at a seat by the window.
